Thank you, God!

Thank you, God, for creating the heavens and the earth! This past weekend was awesome. I didn't want to come home. Saturday:
  • The first stop was Flintlock Family Campground. We just can't go through Boone without stopping there, anymore.
  • KFC in Spruce Pine supplied the picnic lunch.
  • Mount Mitchell was very nice. It was 51 degrees at the top. The weather was very clear. So clear, in fact, that you could see all the way to Mount Pilot.
  • The campground at Mount Mitchell seems to be a "walk-in", so we probably won't camp there.
  • The Coppedges liked Black Mountain and Carolina Hemlock.
  • Toe River Campground was RV's only.
  • Of course, we were able to get several pictures at overlooks along the Parkway. I'm anxious to see how my pictures came out. Due to a motorcycle wreck near Mount Mitchell, we did get to see several emergency vehicles. I guess that's the first time I've ever seen a firetruck on the parkway. I hope that young man will be okay.
  • The fish camp in Lansing actually turned out to be a "family restaurant". It was pretty good, but smelled of "stinkies" and there were a lot of screaming kids there. But the food was actually pretty good.
  • We went back to the house, and finally got to see "Evan Almighty" after figuring out the DVD player. Becky didn't make it all the way through the movie. She might have lasted 10 minutes or so.

Sunday:

  • I got up at 6:30 and started the coffee then took a shower. If we were all going to make it to church, I knew we should get an early start. Then I cooked a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, grits, biscuits and heated Bekah's egg gravy. It was good!
  • We went to worship service @ Obids Baptist Church in West Jefferson. Then we had lunch @ Casa Garcia's at Mount Jefferson. It was very nice. The Coppedges needed to get back so that Bekah could go to church, so they left after lunch. We had an awesome time this weekend. Thank you, God for looking after us!
We went back to the house and changed clothes. I turned my blanket on and settled down in the recliner. I suggested to Mountain Man that some ice cream would be good, so he got up and fixed it. It was very good. I almost dozed off, but I knew I had a long drive ahead of me, so I made myself get up out of the recliner and get my stuff together. I was able to get a few more pictures of the awesome colors before leaving for drought city. Two and one half hours later, I was home again, and missing the mountains already. As mountain man's t-shirt says "The Mountains Are Calling and I Must Go". Maybe it would be better if I didn't torture myself by going up there, until I get to stay for good. Thank you, God, for the beautiful things you created!
